Salem church has a long history dating back to its beginning in the early 1800s, however, after much discussion, prayers and a long process, Salem United Methodist members recently voted unanimously to disassociate from United Methodist Denomination. The congregation has now begun to officially function as a “non-denominational” church, independent from any outside organization or control. They have adopted a new name: Salem Church at Delta. The church will remain committed to and practice the conservative and orthodox beliefs held by Christians for centuries.
The congregation is currently under the leadership of Pastor Lanny Kilgore and Lay Speaker, Deanna Johnson. Pastor Lanny retired as the founding pastor of New Covenant Community Church, Delta, in 2019. Deanna Johnson has been a long time member of Salem and served for several years as pastor.
The congregation and leadership of Salem is excited about its future offering the community a traditional worship service with much loved hymns and liturgy rich with Christian doctrines. Pastor Lanny is committed to preaching sermons that help equip believers with a faith that will stand in today’s world with all its challenges; life-giving and inspiring.
Salem is now a local church for local people and welcomes all who come through its doors, young or old, single or married. Visitors will find the congregation very warm and welcoming. The church facility is especially accessible to the handicapped or aging. Worship service begins each Sunday at 10:30 at 5042 Delta Road (Rt.74) Further information concerning the church can be found on its web-site: Salemdelta.org.
